On May 3rd, the OLMC Parish Community honored Mary, the Mother of God with the annual May Procession.  This year, the celebration was extra special in that May 3rd was also Polish Constitution Day (Konstitucja 3go maja) and the Feast of Mary, Queen of Poland (Maryjo Krolowo Polski).
Prior to entering the Church, Crystal Phillips, OLMC High School's Student Council President, honored the outside statue of Mary with a rosary made of flowers and Fr. Ptak blessed/dedicated the Wyandotte Rosary Shrines.

Once inside the Church, all eyes were on Mary.  As is the tradition at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, She was crowned and honored as our patroness, intercessor and protector.  The Junior High Students under the direction of Mrs. Toni Czerwinski led the congregation in the living rosary.

A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE

On April 28th, a statue commissioned during the great Jubilee Year 2000 and dedicated to Pope John Paul II was erected next to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Pope John Paul II Avenue.  A pictorial of the process by which this 3000# statue was set and mounted may be seen below.

The granite base and pedestal were offloaded, unwrapped....

..and carefully set into place.

The statue was moved via flatbed to its location where it was raised...

...centered and bolted in place.

May today there be peace within you.
May you trust the highest power that you

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received.
And pass on the love that
has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into our bones.
It is there for each and every one of you.

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
(click on smaller images to enlarge)
The parish community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel broke ground for a new statue dedicated to Pope John Paul II on October 16th, the 24th anniversary of his election to papacy.  The 3000# bronze statue was designed by Fr. Walter J. Ptak in conjunction with renowned Polish artist Czeslaw Dzwigaj of Krakow, Poland.  Although Dzwigaj has sculpted approximately 25 statues of the Pope worldwide, the Mt. Carmel Statue represents the first one commissioned for the USA.  It was commissioned during the great Jubilee Year 2000 to serve as a permanent reminder of the Centennial Celebration of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. Description of pictures above: (l-r) Fr. Ptak is assisted in the ground breaking process by an OLMC Kindergarten Student and an OLMC High School Senior; Fr. Ptak leads the group in prayer and blesses the spot where the statue will be erected; an OLMC 8th Grader is assisted by an OLMC 2nd Grader in unveiling a smaller version of the original statue for the group to view and Fr. Ptak poses with the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School Children on this momentous occasion.
